PDA woes

June 17, 2008

Phew!!!!! Never knew PDA’s have to be taken such special care.

This in in regards to getting my IMate PDAL serviced for a cost of 3000Re inspite of the device coming under warranty .After repeatedly calling the service centre guys , I found out that there was only one centre in the whole of Bangalore i.e in Jayanagar 4th block. Not only that it’s the only servicing centre in the whole of south region, although it had collection points in the other parts of Southern India.

After about 1.45 minutes of toil in the BMTC buses, I finally reached the destination and reported that my screen alignment wasn’t happening properly. The sales head over there examined the device and showed me all the scratches and spots that the touchscreen had developed due to my negligence.(I never knew one is supposed to use a screen protector for touch screen devicesL). It would cost a cool 3000 bucks as the the no. 2.4 clause showed by him in the warranty sheet stated that the physical damage to the screen doesn’t come under warranty.

After negotiating with him for the cost he only agreed to go by the actual cost by not giving me a bill thus removing the sales tax implied on the cost. I was initially apprehensive of this but then later on inquired with my friends and the other Mobile sales guys to find that it costs 3000 only.

Anyways, I got few good tips from the manager on regards to how PDA’s life can be extended.
1.Use only trusted TPS(Third Party Softwares). Preferably the SPB PDA solutions, as any damage done to device OS by the TPS also do not come under warranty.
2.All Li-Cd ion batteries life starts ticking away once they come out of manufacturing line. They serve a max of 300-500 cycles(one cycle=one complete charge and discharge cycle ).So life of batteries can be increased by not allowing it to completely dischare and a max of 2.5 hrs of daily charging is enough to last them for a year as per normal usage
2. Do not charge the battery with PC USB but use the standard power supply charger, as the battery takes 1800mA of current but the former case

The Happening drives…..

June 17, 2008

Manoj N. Shyamalan does it again. Kudos to this living legend whose creativity quotient is unmatched in the Sci-fi movie genre. If you thought ‘Sixth Sense’ and ‘The invincibles’ made you wonder about the unnatural, mysterious forces acting upon human kind, this movie is all set to outdo them all…

A simple phenomena about how the grey matter’s defensive signals can get counter attacked by a typical plant kingdoms stimuli response mechanism and inturn lead to a forced suicidal behavior in humans is what Mr. Manojs latest flick talks about. I didn’t feel scary during the whole course of the movie but had nightmares due to which I had to go late to work.

For those of you who are expecting to get a glimpse of Shyamalan in this movie, I wud like to leak the secret, he is none other than Joey(the actress extramarital character who viewers thought was introduced for namesake for he is nowhere seen in the movie) . This is not a typical Manoj movie behaviour.I found this in imdb.

Pssstt!!!!…I have a secret desire to meet this director in person. God are you listening????
